ASA NSC 2027 KYOTO

It is a real pleasure to welcome you to the 2027 Australian Society of Anaesthetists’ National Scientific Congress in Kyoto – the first time the ASA has held its NSC in Japan. This is an exciting moment for our society, and Kyoto feels like a fitting place to come together under the theme Kaizen – Change today for a better tomorrow.

Our committee is looking forward to delivering a program that is engaging, practical and relevant, while also giving delegates the chance to experience the best of Kyoto and the surrounding region. Kyoto is a city where tradition and innovation sit comfortably side by side. From temples and gardens to markets, food and neighbourhoods, there is so much to explore and enjoy outside the congress program.

The congress will be held at the Kyoto International Conference Center, set beside Lake Takaragaike surrounded by gardens and mountain views. With most of the program in one place, delegates will have easy access to sessions, accommodation, transport and Kyoto’s cultural centre. It is a calm and spacious setting for learning, discussion and connection.

We are delighted to be joined by an outstanding international and Australian faculty, including Dr Jan Hansel, Professor Sheila Myatra, Professor Amit Pawa, Professor Britta Regli Von Ungern Sternberg, Professor Bernhard Riedel, Associate Professor Lis Evered and Associate Professor Lachlan Miles. Across four days, the scientific program will include plenaries, masterclasses, workshops and practice evaluations led by experts across anaesthesia and the critical care community.

Our theme, Kaizen – Change today for a better tomorrow, gives us the opportunity to consider how steady, thoughtful improvements in our practice, teams and systems can make a real difference over time. The program has been designed with busy clinicians in mind, with sessions that are useful, current and relevant to everyday practice.

We hope delegates will take time to enjoy the food, culture and hospitality that make Kyoto such a memorable place to visit.
