INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION FROM 2021 CONVENORS

Dr Peta Lorraway

2021 ASA NSC Convenor

Dr Ed Pilling

2021 ACE QLD Convenor

We would like to announce that we are proceeding with a virtual format for the upcoming Conjoint ASA NSC Qld ACE meeting.

Numbers have shown there was clearly an appetite for a return to face to face learning & some social interaction, and we were hoping to deliver this.

But events around the country over the last few weeks, coupled with repeated threats of outbreaks locally and the evolving risk new variants of COVID are bringing have meant we’ve had to prioritise safety concerns.  As healthcare is our ‘day job’ this extends to a concern not only for ourselves, but for the community and potential medical workforce implications.

As promised, we now deliver a virtual programme with the majority of content you would have received on site, accessible online.  We thank our presenters, chairs and facilitators for making this happen.  This ensures all registrants have equitable access, regardless of where you are located.

The invitation to participate in the meeting via the virtual platform is of course still extended, which will also enable delegates to access the excellent scientific programme on demand following the meeting.

Many thanks for your support, and looking forward to seeing you online.

UPDATE AS OF 19 JULY

In light of the current COVID-19 border closures and travel disruption, the Organising Committee have made the difficult decision to proceed with a fully virtual Meeting.  All lecture streams from the program, including the Friday Trainee will be offered in a virtual capacity, and delegates will be able to view the sessions live via the online program platforms.  A very limited range of workshops and case conferences will be accessible on a virtual basis.  There will be no virtual networking functions.

Call for Abstracts

SUBMISSIONS HAVE NOW CLOSED

We invite anaesthetic and pain medicine trainees from across Australia to submit their abstracts for presentation at the 2021 Conjoint ASA NSC and QLD ACE Meeting.

The call for abstracts is open to all current ANZCA and ASA trainees, and fellows in their first year of fellowship. The idea is to give trainees and new fellows a platform to present research performed as part of their ANZCA training, especially during this pandemic year. Preference will be given to work which has been predominantly or completely executed by the trainee.

Submissions are invited for anaesthesia or pain medicine research in the following categories:

Quality Assurance projects including Scholar Role Audits

Original research

Surveys

Case reports or case series

The applications which meet all eligibility criteria and are most exemplary of excellence in trainee-led research, will be selected for an oral presentation in the Tess Cramond Prize session at 1.30pm on Friday 23 July, 2021.

All other accepted submissions will have the option to submit an ePoster to be displayed in the trade hall throughout the conference weekend, with the highest scoring submissions selected for a 5 minute oral ePoster presentation during the lunch break on Friday 23 July, 2021.

The Tess Cramond Prize

The Tess Cramond Prize for excellence in trainee-led research will be awarded to the author who is deemed to have produced the best abstract and oral presentation.

ePoster Prize

ePoster Prize will be awarded to the author of the ePoster judged to be the best of those submitted in terms of originality, scientific rigor and quality of presentation.

ASA Trainee Audit Prize

A prize of free registration to a future NSC will be awarded to the top-performing applicant, who is also an ASA member, in the Tess Cramond Prize session.
