About

Australian Society of
Anaesthetists

Formed in 1934, the Australian Society of Anaesthetists is a
not-for-profit member-funded organisation dedicated to supporting
and connecting Australian anaesthetists.

We work with and for our members to ensure the high
standards of the profession.

We primarily focus on the economic, workforce and professional interests of our members. It is through the activities of our State Chairs and State Committee’s that members are actively engaged with the work of the Society.

State Committee’s play a vital role in actively promoting the vision of the Society – at a State level.

The annual NSC attracts over 800 attendees each year and is the major annual opportunity for anaesthetists, both ASA members and non-members alike, to network and socialise with their peers, to see the latest innovations in their specialties or areas of interest, and to participate in an exciting scientific program that includes plenary sessions, concurrent sessions, seminars, workshops and small group discussions.

The Australian Society of Anaesthetists National Scientific Congress has a critically important role to play in the ongoing education of anaesthetists, registrars and associated professionals.

There are many functions the NSC provides in addition to imparting education:

  • sharpening your skills
  • opportunities to interact with peers and international guest speakers
  • trying new equipment
  • evolving novel and locally relevant ideas,
  • developing consensus in contentious areas leading to improvement in health-care delivery
  • improving patient outcomes
