INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION FROM 2021 CONVENORS

Dr Peta Lorraway

2021 ASA NSC Convenor

Dr Ed Pilling

2021 ACE QLD Convenor

We have been given the privilege of convening the conjoint ASA NSC/QLD ACE CME meeting in Brisbane, 23-25th July 2021.

It is exciting to have our committees working together with the common goal of bringing you a great educational event, coupled with an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and the many that support us.

No one could have foreseen the challenges our anaesthetic communities would face in 2020, and how we have needed to adapt and display great flexibility in our working and personal lives.  It also highlighted how vital collaborative and continuing education is to our profession, our patients, and to society as a whole.

We celebrate the 80th anniversary of the NSC this year and it’s very fitting that the gift for this is the pearl, said to represent something endurable and unconquerable, which we think you’ll agree speaks to how we’ve all responded.  We are optimistic that 2021 will allow us to return to some aspects of ‘normal’ life, and that we will together continue to shape what this ‘new normal’ will look like.

Our joint scientific committee continues to work on a programme that will bring you a wealth of knowledge in varied areas, there will be something of interest no matter what aspect of anaesthetics you are involved in. We aim to provide opportunities for participation not only in a great lecture series, but also workshops, discussion groups, Q&A sessions with experts, and quality assurance activities.

New for 2021, we are offering a limited hybrid format, opening up the option for delegates to view and interact with program sessions virtually, as well as welcoming you onsite at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The Networking Function and Exhibitor Welcome drinks will take place on the Friday evening, and will be a great opportunity to meet with industry colleagues, enjoying drinks and canapés in a relaxed setting.  Our social function on the Saturday evening is to be held at the Queensland Art Gallery Watermall and will be ticketed separately.  We suggest booking early as celebrating together in this fabulous location is sure to be popular.

So on behalf of the entire organising committee we would like to extend an invitation to you to be part of this great event. We are hoping that you will be able to embrace the opportunity to join us in Brisbane, where we show what you can achieve by working together.

Many thanks,

Dr Peta Lorraway & Dr Ed Pilling

Call for Abstracts

We invite anaesthetic and pain medicine trainees from across Australia to submit their abstracts for presentation at the 2021 Conjoint ASA NSC and QLD ACE Meeting.

The call for abstracts is open to all current ANZCA and ASA trainees, and fellows in their first year of fellowship. The idea is to give trainees and new fellows a platform to present research performed as part of their ANZCA training, especially during this pandemic year. Preference will be given to work which has been predominantly or completely executed by the trainee.

Submissions are invited for anaesthesia or pain medicine research in the following categories:

Quality Assurance projects including Scholar Role Audits

Original research

Surveys

Case reports or case series

The applications which meet all eligibility criteria and are most exemplary of excellence in trainee-led research, will be selected for an oral presentation in the Tess Cramond Prize session at 1.30pm on Friday 23 July, 2021.

All other accepted submissions will have the option to submit an ePoster to be displayed in the trade hall throughout the conference weekend, with the highest scoring submissions selected for a 5 minute oral ePoster presentation during the lunch break on Friday 23 July, 2021.

Submit an Abstract

Submit your abstract via email to qldevents@anzca.edu.au, using the application form, linked in the box adjacent.

Please ensure you use an email address that is current and checked regularly.

Submission Deadline: 5pm AEST – Wednesday 19 May, 2021.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

Please ensure you have downloaded and read through
the following documents prior to the submission of your abstract.

  • All communications regarding your abstract submission will be sent to the email address you enter when submitting.
  • We recommend that the email address belongs to the main author who will be presenting at the Congress.
  • By submitting an abstract you agree that it is original research and that you are not submitting research previously presented orally or accepted for publication in a journal. Your abstract remains eligible for submission if it has been displayed at a scientific meeting as an ePoster.
  • Authors must ensure information regarding ethics approval and patient consent is included with your abstract submission. You may be asked for more information during the assessment of your abstract. If you do not have the required consent or approvals, your abstract will not be accepted to the meeting. Authors must include a statement of no more than 25 words detailing their specific role in the project.
  • Deadline for submission of abstracts: Wednesday, 19 May 2021
  • Authors advised of submission result: Wednesday, 9 June 2021
